Dr. Eric De Brabandere is universitair hoofddocent internationaal publiekrecht aan het Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies van de Universiteit Leiden. Hij is Visiting Professor aan de Faculté Libre de Droit van de Université Catholique de Lille, Frankrijk. Hij is eveneens senior editor van de Leiden Journal of International Law (sectie 'Current Legal Developments') en een lid van het Redactiecomité van het Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Internationaal Recht/Revue belge de droit international (Belgian Review of International Law).
Eric De Brabandere heeft een diploma van kandidaat en licentiaat in de rechten (cum laude) van de Universiteit Gent (2001), een Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) en Droit International Public (LLM) (mention ‘bien’) van de Universiteit van Genève (2002). Hij behaalde in 2007 een doctoraat in de rechten aan de Universiteit Gent. Tussen 2002 en 2007 werkte hij deeltijds als assistent bij de Vakgroep Internationaal Publiek Recht aan de Universiteit Gent, als docent internationale instellingen en internationale handel aan de Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerpen en als advocaat aan de Balie van Brussel.
Zijn onderzoeksdomeinen behelzen internationale geschillenbeslechting en arbitrage, het algemeen internationaal recht, mensenrechten en het recht inzake vrede en veiligheid. Hij is de auteur van verschillende publicaties in die domeinen, waaronder het boek ‘Post-conflict Administrations in International Law: International Territoria Administration, Transitional Authority and Foreign Occupation in Theory and Practice (Martinus Nijhoff, 2009). Hij heeft in 2010 een VENI subsidie ontvangen van het NWO voor een driejarig onderzoek naar de beslechting van hedendaagse investeringsgeschillen.
Aan de Universiteit Leiden doceert Eric De Brabandere de vakken International Dispute Settlement in Regular en in de Advanced Master Public International Law.
